The Master of Health Administration (MHA) program is designed to train students to work as professionals in the health care field. The degree is achieved after completion of a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent course of study. Students in the program can expect to take classes that examine both the theory and the practice of management, administration, and leadership. They will also learn how to develop managerial and leadership skills. The MHA program enables students to become professionals in areas such as management consulting, healthcare management, health information management, hospital administration, health research and policy, and health risk management.
The Master of Health Administration program is one of five national graduate degree programs accredited by The Higher Learning Commission for Health and Human Services (HLHS). The other Master of Health Administration programs are the Master of Science Degree in Health Administration (HASS), the Master of Nursing Practice (MLP), the Master of Health Administration (MHA), and the Master of Health Services Management (MHS). These Master of Health Administration degree programs are available at traditional schools, as well as online schools. The degree awarded in these programs is the same type offered to students in an associate’s degree program, the only difference is the number of years the course requires.
In addition to the Master of Health Administration degree, online healthcare master’s programs also offer the Master of Science Degree in Administration (MSAA), a two-year degree program that can be earned through an on-campus or online learning program. Both degree programs offer coursework in public health, management, and administration. The MSAA degree requires its graduates to be certified in all areas of human services and to have taken at least 100 credit hours of coursework in human services administration. Online MSAA degrees require its graduates to have taken the same number of credit hours, but do not require them to be certified.
As with all online graduate healthcare degrees, there are a number of eligibility requirements for prospective students. Graduates must be United States citizens or qualified non-U.S. citizens with a high school diploma or its equivalent. Other conditions required by the MSHA include having a passing score on the GMAT, having three years of healthcare experience, and having a minimum GPA. Students who meet these requirements are then eligible for an MSHA. The MSHA does not accept transfer credits, which means graduates must begin their coursework right away.
If you are thinking about applying for a masters in healthcare administration degree, there are a number of factors you need to consider. One important factor is what career prospects you’re looking for. Many jobs don’t involve an MBA. Other positions may be better suited to an MBA, but not everyone has one. The level of experience you have in a specific career field will make a difference in what your bachelor’s degree will likely earn you.
Another important factor to consider is what field of expertise you are interested in pursuing as a graduate. While a bachelor’s degree is usually adequate for working entry-level positions, you may want to pursue further education if you have a desire to pursue a position in a more specialized or competitive health care industry. For example, a nurse practitioner will require additional training after completing a bachelor’s degree and will likely have to compete more rigorously for that position than other nurses.
A few healthcare administrative master’s degree programs allow you to specialize. These programs are often called Doctoral Studies. You can specialize in a number of different areas, such as clinical practice, hospital administration, pharmaceuticals, nursing, government, and more. The doctorate program you choose should be completed within five years. You will have a more advanced degree when you pursue specialization and will likely require more coursework.
Online graduate healthcare mba programs are popular for many reasons. First of all, they allow you to work and study at the same time. Second, you can complete your degree at your own pace. Finally, many online Master’s degree programs offer financial aid. If you cannot afford the tuition costs of a traditional campus-based program, you may be able to get financial assistance from your school’s department of education.
