Review of “The Return of Xander Cage”

There is a lot of anticipation building in the fan circles for the XXX: The Return of Xander Cage movie. Everyone wants to know where he is now, what happened to him, and why he is leading such a destructive life again. In the first movie, we saw how he had fallen out of love with Selina Kyle (Annabel Styles) after she left him and went off with Richard Speck (John Tutturro). But where does he stand now, and how can he be saved? In this review, we’ll take a quick look at the second sequel, XXX: The Return of Xander Cage.

The first movie, XXX: The Return of Xander Cage featured the breakout starring role of Robert Downey Jr., whose name recognition has skyrocketed since his starring turn in the last Harry Potter film, The Half Blood Prince. Robert Downey Jr. has portrayed a number of characters since he started playing roles, but it seems that his acting prowess has also made him an important part of the writers room for this project, co-writing with Greg Berlanti, Tim Burton, and Jane Campion. While the character of Xander Cage originally appeared in the second film, “Xavier,” he was basically cut out of the sequel and replaced by Cage’s son, Jaden Smith. While we didn’t get to see much of either Downey Jr. or Smith in the film, the actors are still making a name for themselves on the big screen, with “The Greatest Show on Earth” and “The Mentalist” having earned them their respective stars.

The second film, which is based on the original “Xander Cage” story, XXX: The Return of Xander Cage pits Robert Downey Jr. against a new villain, Jigsaw. Though the plot is similar to its predecessor, this movie did not receive the same fanfare from either the hardcore fans of the comic book or the X-Men fans. It’s been compared to the latter in terms of entertainment, but has also been compared to the former because of the story. Directed by Mike De Luca, the movie promises to be a fan favorite this Christmas, even though it doesn’t match up to the box office receipts of last year’s release, X-Men: Days of Future Past.

It’s set twenty years after the events of “Xavier.” A man named Scott Summers (Robert Downey Jr.) returns home to become the father of two young kids. However, when a suitcase containing a mysterious woman (Emma Stone) arrives at their door, they are unprepared to find a suitcase that contains something much worse than a love letter, a soccer ball, and some ice cubes. While Scott and Emma begin investigating the woman who mailed the suitcase, they uncover a plot in which a terrorist organization plans to use ice cubes as a weapon against the American populace. With the help of a new member from the military, Scott races to stop the group, and the nefarious plans of those who want to use the power of ice cubes to take control of the government and the economy of America.

Edward Grishelski plays the role of Scott, a man with a strange personal history; aside from the fact that he’s a mutant, he also has telepathic abilities, telekinesis, and can read minds. Robert Downey Jr. plays the role of Cyclops, an X-Man whose life was drastically changed when he discovered that his wife was infertile, and who uses his unusual abilities to help his wife cope with her condition. Michael Bisping plays the role of Wolverine, an Australian anti-hero who uses his healing powers to help those in need, as well as his powerful mutant abilities to protect the world. The supporting cast also includes James Marsden as Dr. Crawford, a doctor who specializes in mental health issues; John Heard as Bishop, a mysterious and powerful mutant with a crush on Scott; and finally, Scott Summers as Cyclops, who is torn between his two alternate realities because of the danger posed by an impending dimensional portal created by Emma Frost.

The Return of Xander Cage is different from the rest of the xxx movies in many ways. The first, and most obvious, is the story. Unlike most xxx movies where the protagonist has been given superpowers, in The Return of Xander Cage the role is played by Robert Downey Jr., who is playing the role of a normal person with amazing powers. While this may be disheartening for some, it is a part of the plot of the film that is integral to understanding the motivations of the antagonist, Scott Summers. In the future, everyone will have superpowers, so why not get the power to change your life, as well? Besides, in the future everyone will know about the weirdo science that is behind their superpowers, so it’s good to have that knowledge in your hands.

The second difference is the setting of the film. While the majority of the stories about the characters in the past had been set in New York City, The Return of Xander Cage takes place in India, specifically in India’s Punjab state, and this decision was done to make the setting more authentic and to provide a better setting for the story. Besides, India is home to such pop culture stars as Sunny Depp and Meryl Streep, whose presence would lend a much more realistic touch to the story; and they already do a wonderful job of blending into the culture of India.

This is just a small review, but I want to give my own personal take on the matter. This movie is going to go down as one of the best films of the year, and it is a fantastic watch all the way through. I highly recommend it…as well as Nicky Hilton wine, because I’m a big fan! I’m looking forward to seeing The Return of Xander Cage next…
